You’ve Reached Your Limit on Social Media

For anyone who watched the Presidential debate last night, I’m sure we can agree it was a big shit show and a major disappointment all around. Of course, all of the political pundits and everyone on social media are having a field day today weighing in with their opinions and arguing with anyone who disagrees with them. Such fun times!

If you don’t spend any time on social media, good for you, I give you credit. But if you are like most people (myself included) and find yourself spending too much on social media, I have some practical advice to share with you…

I was recently at a family get together and the topic of how much time we spend on our phones came up. We all went to the settings in our phone and then clicked on “Screen Time” to share with each other our daily average of hours spent on our phones. Let’s just say it was a real wake-up call for me!

A few days later while at work, I was talking to Jackson (our head sales guy) about it and he said that he set “time limits” on his social media apps to help restrict the amount of time he spends on social. For what it’s worth, Jackson is also one of the fittest and healthiest guys I know.

So I decided to give a try myself and after doing it for a few weeks I saw a significant drop in my daily screen time…allowing me to be more productive and have more free time to actually think, spend time with my family and friends, read a book…and most importantly just enjoy life and the beautiful world around me. It’s been quite liberating to say the least and I encourage you to give it a try!

Here’s what you need to do. If you have an I-phone from your settings go to “screen time” then click on “app limits.” From there you can set a daily time limit on any app on your phone. I set mine for 30 mins a day on Instagram and 30 mins a day on Facebook.

I also encourage you to unplug one day each week and take a Digital DeLoad Day!
