Okay, I made up that better-looking part, but I’m serious about the rest! 😄
Really, there is one simple thing that you can do each and every day and it can have massive effect on your kids.
Eat dinner together as a family.
That seems silly, right? That something so simple as eating dinner together can make a difference … but it’s true.
Research has found that family dinners can boost vocabulary, lower anxiety, and reduce high-risk teenage behaviors like smoking, binge drinking, and eating disorders.
A simple family meal can also increase healthy food consumption, with kids eating more vegetables and fruits.
When you think about it, that makes sense and we already kind of know it … but it’s easier said than done, right? We lead busy lives, everyone has a packed schedule, and time always seems so short in the day.
But this is important.
Would you join me in making a commitment to family dinners in the coming year? Seriously. I believe very strongly in the family dinner concept and I’ve seen how my kids benefit from that simple nightly ritual of nutrition and connection, together, with no screens and no distractions. It’s not easy. I’ll be honest with you. I have three kids in after-school sports, I’m running Steve’s PaleoGoods and coaching at Steve’s Club … but we make time for the important stuff, right? Like honest talk and sharing of our lives, just like our parent and our grandparents did before us, over healthy whole foods.
The really good things in life don’t change all that much, you know?
So, as we move forward into a new year, let’s all put our families first and share at least one meal together each day. Let’s prepare a good meal and gather. It’s way more important than we often realize.
