It’s that time of year: Gut check time.
You know, you look down at your gut and think, “Oh boy, I don’t want that to grow this holiday season.”
Because we all know how it is. Holiday season is food season. Tons of goodies and drinks and delicious morsels everywhere. We celebrate, we overindulge a bit, we feel guilty afterwards. And we hope we don’t gain more bodyfat.
But it doesn’t have to be that way.
We can get through this holiday season without gaining bodyfat. We can get through it without wrecking our nutritional plans and ending up with eyes glazed over, licking our sticky fingers, as we zone out again on the couch, sad that we’ve succumbed yet again to the Sugar Monster.
We can do better.
How? I’m not going to tell you to be a nutritional monk and avoid all holiday food and holiday parties. Go! Have fun!
Just redefine (a little bit) what fun is.
See, we get this idea that fun is sugar or alcohol or lots of carbs. We focus on the forbidden pleasures and our desire grows. “Just one.” “Okay, one more.” “Okay, another one.” And they all taste so good and we fly … until we crash.
But what if we thought of fun a little differently?
If you’re reading this, you probably already do (sort of). You are already interested in eating healthy and taking care of your body. You most likely are among the 20% of Americans who regularly go to the gym. Good for you! This means you’re already doing some things right!
Now, all you have to do is keep doing more things right—that is, make a few better choices this season. I’m not going to tell you to pick the celery sticks over the Buffalo chicken wings. What am I going to tell you? Use Steve’s Wing Sauce! It doesn’t have sugar and garbage in it, and it’s delicious! You can read the ingredients right here: “Water, Apple Cider Vinegar, Tomato Puree (Tomatoes, Water), Roasted Red Peppers, Honey, Korean Red Peppers, Sea Salt, Garlic, Spice. ” That’s amazingly simple and pure. Next time you’re in the grocery store, turn over other wing sauce bottles and read the ingredients: you’ll be surprised at how much sugar is in them. But not Steve’s.
That’s just one example, but it’s a good one. (Because, who doesn’t love chicken wings?) There are a hundred other choices you can make that will make a difference for your gut this holiday season. Remember, you don’t have to make perfect choices, you just need to make a better choice whenever you can. Pick this over that. Choose a Nut Butter made with honey instead of refined sugars. Decide you’re going to drink alcohol only at every other holiday party. Or match every party with an extra session at the gym. Stock your cupboards and have a plan.
You can survive this gut check, but you’re going to have to be smart and make smart choices. But you can do that, right? Steve’s is one smart choice. Now, make another. And another. You got this!
